** CLICK THE COVER PHOTO TO ORDER **

A one-page strip that first appeared on the Internet in 2008, Hoofjob is a crudely drawn gag comic that focuses on pop culture and taboos in all their formats. Sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll, race, religion … no topic is left unskewed.

Drawn in a cartoon style influenced by artists such as Don Martin, these silly images clash jarringly with the dark, disturbing narratives. Salty Peters and Dick Smalls appear throughout the book as two bumbling n’er do wells. Hoofjob Comics is filled with dick jokes, scatological humor, profanity and cartoon nudity.

“I’ve been drawing this particular comic for over a year now,” Geoffrey says, “and it’s great to see it all coming together in this book. My target audience is readers who appreciate dark, adult humor. I started reading comics at an early age. Stuff like MAD Magazine, the National Lampoon and the like were obvious early influences. Don Martin’s work at MAD in particular struck a chord with me, but the underground stuff—Crumb, Peter Bagge, Johnny Ryan, Joe Matt, and Sam Henderson—are my most direct influences.”

Geoffrey Reed has contributed to the public access shows See The Light, Future Cop, and J.W. Jurkhoff’s Wacky Home Videos. In the late 1990s he was a founding member of the rock group, The Den Mothers. He currently lives in the Ballard area of Seattle, Washington with many pets and one woman. Visit him on the Web at Hoofjob.com and read his witty posts on Facebook, written under the name Geoffrey Sanchez Reed.

Hoofjob is available in paperback on Amazon.com as well as Amazon’s European websites. Bookstores can order by contacting info@fannypress.com or through the Baker & Taylor catalog.

Both graphic novels illustrate “first time” stories collected from interviews with real people. The project is the second joint effort of Seattle artist K.D. Boze and Idaho illustrator Stasia Kato.

Sex-advice columnist Dan Savage praised the first book as “moving, hilarious, and heartbreaking.” The latest volume opens with an introduction by University of Washington sociology professor and nationally noted sexuality expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz.

On May 1, 2010, creators Boze and Kato were named Cartoonists of the Year by Cartoonists Northwest, which also awarded The Virgin Project 2 the Golden Toonie Award in the Comic Books/Graphic Novels Category.

As in the first book, the stories cover a wide range of experiences—sometimes wonderful, often sweet and occasionally traumatic—from people of every sexual orientation.

Praise for the first Virgin Project:

“The writing is the drawn book at its most poetic, in the classic sense of poetry of saying the most with the fewest words. Boze and Kato are pithy, loquacious when the stories are funny, short and harsh when the story goes dark. And some of these stories are very dark. The authors pay close attention to the true voices of their subjects. The only thing that colors the stories is an accepting humanity. No sort of tale of the First Time is ignored in The Virgin Project….

“I don’t keep a lot of the books that are given me to read or review; I’ve even stuck the ones I didn’t want to keep in the back of airplane seats. The Virgin Project is going on the book shelf by the bed. Talk about sexy.”

Donna Barr
AssociatedContent.com

“One of the most interesting books to cross my desk in recent months…filled with fascinating narratives of an experience common to most people, yet infinitely varied in its details. Some of the stories are joyful, some are hilarious, some are sad, and a few are downright horrific. Though the stories deal with human sexuality, the depictions of ‘the deed’ are circumspect and tasteful.”

D. Boze

Sensitive and uncensored, The Virgin Project is a hilarious and touching collection that recreates the first-time sexual experiences of real people in graphic form.

Miranda’s story is sweet, simple, and nice—everyone’s ideal first experience. Clifton discovered he was gay while looking at Mexican girly mags in a tree house with his best friend. Patty was playing around with her girlfriend in the garage, on the hood of Dad’s mustang, when Mom walked in and offered to take her to a shrink. Jim hired a prostitute so he wouldn’t be inexperienced on his wedding night. Marc was raped by his high school wrestling coach.

Boze and Kato tell it how it is: from romance to rape. Each story is told in the person’s own words and professionally illustrated. If you have teenagers, and you care about their health and happiness, this is the book you want to accidentally leave on the coffee table.

Read sample stories at virginproject.fannypress.com.
